Boring, but that's a good thing lately

Rather a low-key day today.

Got up amazingly late -- like noonish. But then I got in around midnight last night, after spending some time with gunthar at the hospital, and got a phone call from my sister as soon as I got in the door.

I sort of like talking to my sister. She and I get along a lot better than we used to -- since she's mostly stopped attempting to be my mother and has figured out that I do know what I'm talking about quite a bit of the time -- but every time she calls, she's had at least a couple. And she doesn't stop drinking while we're talking, so by the time I can get off the phone, the conversation has deteriorated more than a little.

I finally got loose around 2:30 am, after saying goodbye half a dozen times. Oy.

So today, I putzed around the apartment for a bit, then went up to the hospital again. gunthar is doing okay, though he apparently didn't have a very good night last night. The doctors readjusted his meds, so he's better now. He seems to be improving, so I'm hoping he can come home soon.

Besides, we're almost done with the jigsaw puzzle in the patient lounge, and TV's gettting really boring. I'm even becoming tired of the Food Network!

I'm going up again tomorrow, of course. I think I'll take Mille Bourne, a French racing card game. Got to cheer him up a bit. I'm just thankful he's getting better, and that -- as bad as this is for him -- it's not life-threatening.

Another friend of ours volunteered to give me a kidney if Lee doesn't work out. I am amazed by people who do this. I've had surgery often enough that I know how big a deal it is. I like to think that if the situation was reversed, I'd volunteer to give one of mine, at least if one of my family needed one, but it still surprises me. I guess because I never expected anyone to give me that much, and two people have already offered. I feel pretty lucky to call these people my friends.

Time for a little Mah Jong, then off to bed.
