It's been a really mixed bag for me the last couple of weeks.
- Having tubes coming out of my chest sucks. This also puts showers in the "out of the question" category.
+ My dialysis center is okay, but their social services worker is stellar. She applied for several grants on my behalf. The Kidney Association now covers the premium of my supplemental insurance and sent me a check to cover gas money.
++ My new primary doctor hooked me up with a mail-order prescription service. I get four of my drugs for under $100 for a three-months' supply. If anyone out there might be interested, let me know. If you're fairly broke, you can use the service, whether if you have prescription coverage or not.
++ My dialysis center has cable!
++ Gunthar has a day job. It's on the other side of Lakeville, so it takes a half an hour to get there and is slightly costly to get him to work, but it seems like a good fit for him.
-- It takes some time to start getting paychecks.
-- We got a warning last night about rent.
-- I broke down and asked my mother for money.
++ I got the check today. We'll probably squeak by.
- We're bored and broke, and most things we'd be interested in would cost more than we could afford.
++ Yay! Hitchcock movie night at the Arkham Asylum tonight!
-+ This requires cookies, since it's probably the easiest thing for me to bake. I'm thinking oatmeal.
- I have a GI doctor's appointment on Friday morning. This involves breathing in a tube every 20 minutes for 2-1/2 hours.
+ I'm finally reading Pride & Prejudice. I've seen a couple of movies based on the book, of course, but there's nothing like the original source. It'll come in handy tomorrow morning.
- I'm tired most of the time 'cause that's what dialysis does to me/my body.
-+ I can't eat most of the time. The diabulemic in me is pleased with the weight loss, but it makes it really difficult to manage my insulin dosages.
- Figuring out my "dry weight" sucks when my weight changes constantly.
+ I'm now seeing a therapist every other week.
++ She and I figured out why it's been difficult for me to do much of anything. It's been getting a hell of a lot easier.
++ I have proofreading to do! The Registration database changes every year, and probably a lot more than most people think. My co-head dropped the second bunch of paperwork for me. : )
-- The time I drove over to Andy's house, I drove over a snow bank, which was a lot more ice than snow.
- The reason it happened? I was driving up Hwy. 13 (which has no lights), and some guy driving in the opposite direction crossed over the center line to the opposite shoulder to check his mailbox (?!). I freaked seeing headlights facing me and drove to the shoulder, running over a snowbank.
-- I'm just not going to drive at night anymore if I can avoid it.
-- It damaged a good chunk of the underside of the car.
+ Our car insurance covered the accident, since we have full coverage.
+- Our deductible is only $100, but we don't have that much.
- I'll take another $100 to cover a rental while Saturn works on it.
+ The car is, at least, drivable, although a bit louder now.
+ I'm starting to work on the transplant rigamarole. It's going to take a couple of months at the least.
++ My nephrologist told me that kidney stones don't rule out donating a kidney to someone else. Yup, if they say Gunthar is compatible with me, he might be in the operating room with me.
+- We're planning on September (if I don't end up getting a call from the Transplant team with available organs). By that point, we may be sharing a house with our kids. I hate having roommates, but it would be a lot easier on money and recuperation, especially if both of us are recovering from surgery.
People ask how I am, or whether I'm having good week or not. Hrm. Really no good answer to that one. On the whole, most problems have a habit of resolving itself or are cancelled out by a bit of good news coming in. The up-and-down is pretty tiring. The last couple of weeks have been a bit depressing, of course, and that's why you haven't heard much from me. It seems I only post when I've got good news to share.
