Why are mobiles so complicated?

We've been on 3 for the last 18 months and now that our contract is at an end, I want to go PAYG as we do not use anywhere near the cost of the contract.

I have a couple of old phones, so I ust want sims, I give Carphone Warehouse a call to check that I can 'port' my numbers across and they make another offer (http://shop.carphonewarehouse.com/pay-monthly/virgin/sim-card/virgin-mobile/) which I am finding it hard to dislike.

Why can't things be simple? I always get the feeling that once I have decided to go with a particular agreement, I will get stitched up.

Oh, and the phone call I had with 3 to cancel my old contract was very frustrating, I had to tell her 6 times that I did not want the contract, the network, or the phone!
