Isle of Palms Connector 10K

So yesterday, I went out and ran the Isle of Palms Connector 10K. This course is completely flat, except for the bridge over the main channel of the intracoastal waterway (which the course crosses twice). I had two goals for this race. Finishing without stopping to walk at all, and finishing in under 55 minutes. The second goal is to get a certified race result to get me into the first time group at the Peachtree Road Race.

It was a rather chilly race morning (about 58 degrees at race start) and the wind was blowing rather a lot over the marsh. Fortunately, once I got moving I quickly warmed up, and it turned out to be an almost ideal race day. I did indeed finish the race without stopping to walk, in a time of 55:28. I was just 29 seconds away from making the second goal, less than 5 seconds per mile.

Oh well. I'm still thrilled that I finished it without stopping. Especially since I took three weeks off of training due to a sore knee. I only just started back last week. I have great hopes of making that second goal sometime this autumn.

Hurray!
