Late October Art Journal

Nov 02, 2012 09:19

Some art journal pages from this week. October was a very Gracie-centric month: first grade is in full swing, there were school photos, Halloween, and her birthday so there was a lot about her that I wanted to include. It’s funny how these journals are evolving into a record of day-to-day life and not just creativity and emotions, although I want to get back to doing more of that.

(Sorry for the blurry photos- I snapped quick picks early this morning before the sun came out.)

G @ Seven - First Grader

We got Gracie’s school pictures back, so I decided to do a few pages with the photos plus some other things that have come across my desk relating to her- random assignments and art from school, stickers she left me, information sheets from the doctor that we were given during her last regular check-up, etc.

poem and self-portrait

The background of this page is actually an assignment from school (sheet music- identifying notes) but it got covered up by the washi tape. The poem is the first one she wrote and the little sketch on the bottom is a self-portrait. I thought it was funny because it looked like her school picture and she wrote this very grand sort of arrow and her name upside down. It just made us laugh when we saw it on one of her papers.

Gracie’s poem

Her poem reads:

“The sky is full with air

the ocean flows the water

the birds sing a lot of days

the people are calm too[o]

the flowers will rise to the sky

kids are having fun to[o]

and the sun is bright in the sky

t[w]o pe[o]ple are cleaning”

I have to admit, I love the “flowers will rise to the sky” part. And I laughed at “two people are cleaning” ending.

First Grader

The background of this page is actually a copy of the growth/weight chart her doctor gave us at her checkup. I thought it would be interesting to include. In the middle of the pages is a little vellum sheet with some details about what Gracie is like right this very minute- I bound it into the book with Washi tape.

homework, halloween, dinner and a movie

This is actually a set of pages from much earlier in the month- I kept putting off the journaling because homework was stressful for a while. But I finally sat down and finished it last week. The background is just some K & Company pages that I painted over.

homework & halloween

Just photos, journaling, and some old Hallmark stickers in my stash which I have always loved but never really had a use for.

dinner and a movie

A page about our regular weekend tradition- we go to the movies with Nanny and Papa and then out to dinner together. If there’s something not kid-friendly (like “The Master”, which was *not* our favorite movie by a long shot), Tom and I will go to the movies by ourselves earlier in the day and then meet Gracie, Nanny, and Papa for a later showing of the family-friendly movie (like “Hotel Transylvania”, which I *did* like.)

Root Down

For Gracie’s birthday, she asked to go to the Botanical Gardens in Naples. They have a ton of kids stuff there, and she gets to pretty much run free and climb everything so it’s lots of fun for her. I took a zillion photos and couldn’t narrow it down to just a few so I printed them out very small and just kept it simple.

The background paper is Amy Tangerine and I used paper punches and washi tape.

Root Down

The insert is from a little bag we got at the Garden (Gracie got a tiny journal, of course…) and a business card from the cupcake place we went after dinner.

end of october art journal

Just some journaling and info about the day… the title “Root Down” actually comes from a Beastie Boys song that I heard the morning before we left for the Garden, and there are lyrics about family in there so I thought since it was a family day, I’d use it.

I posted a bunch of photos over at Sprout today, as well.

Thank you for looking and have a lovely weekend!
