late october art journal
As usual, I have a bunch of art journal pages in progress, but only completed one this week. It’s basically a mix of odds and ends that have landed on my desk the past few weeks, and I have been gluing them in as they find their way to me- business cards, bookmarks, calendar pages, packaging, product inserts, political mail (we are getting SO much of it), Gracie’s school work, invoices, etc.

The main image on this page is from a calendar I have on my desk- I LOVED the images of the container garden on a street in Italy. I’m Italian, so the fact that my “container gardening obsession” may actually be a heritage thing, as well, made me really happy.

Journaling on a page bound into the journal with Washi tape.

The “ARGHHHH” bit I found in a magazine and had to cut it out and paste it smack in the middle of all the political bits and pieces (that eventually got hidden by other elements layered on top)- it totally sums up how I feel about politics at the moment.
On top is images of the movies we saw two weekends ago (“Argo”- AMAZING!! and “Here Comes the Boom” which the whole family enjoyed…) and the three Elizabeth Berg books I happened to read the week this page was coming together.

Finally, an inadvertent collage. I use an old telephone book as a way to protect my desk when I want to glue something or smear on paint or spritz with ink- I open up to a random page, go crazy, and then shut the book and put it away. Total mess catcher.
Anyway, a long time ago I was spraying something and the page in the telephone book looked really colorful after I was finished, so I tore it out and kept it. I wound up ripping it up into little pieces and gluing it down on the back of a box of granola bars from Trader Joe’s, and it wound up becoming the insert for this set of journal pages.
The quote on top of it is by Martha Beck. It resonated with me.
In other news, on Sunday we took a trip to the Naples Botanical Garden for Gracie’s birthday (her choice) so
I have a ton of photos of that adventure up over on Sprout. I’ll probably be posting a more Gracie-centric account of that day in the next few days here.
Hope you have a lovely weekend- what are your plans?
