Some pages from this week’s art journaling…

“live artfully”

Two pages with a little collage-y page bound into the book between them.

september art journal

I got a Serena and Lily catalog in the mail one afternoon, and I wasn’t in the mood to really do much of anything, so I sort of sat down with a pair of scissors and a glue stick and just cut and pasted random bits of text into the journal page.

A few days later, I wanted to play with my new paper punch, so I took a few sheets of 6×6 paper from different paper pads that said “AUTUMN” to me, and just punched out flowers and glued them on the page. I’m not loving it, and I’m not entirely convinced it is complete (needs tape!!) but I have other things I want to work on so I’m leaving it for now. I feel good about just working on it even though I didn’t feel like doing anything but sitting and staring into space for a while.

postage

I won a little something from a blog I love, and I included the postage and customs forms that was on the envelope that came in the mail. On the flip side of that is a little piece of cardboard I cut from a gift a dear friend sent me (TEA!)

9-12

Just some journaling about what was going on in our lives.

Around it I used Pan Pastels and a Julie Fei-Fan Balzer stencil, plus some puff paint to give it a little dimension. I framed it with washi tape, added a few Martha Stewart flowers, number stickers from American Crafts, and called it a day

keep your head up…

Next two pages…

… keep your heart strong

This was an image in Real Simple that I glued down and “bordered” with some strips of color I cut from a Pottery Barn catalogue. I just loved the colors. On the image, I glued down a little article from the magazine and the lyrics from a Ben Howard song I have been listening to a lot lately.

Here’s a close-up of the little article:

important to have idle days

super cool postacrd

In the middle I bound a really cool house-shaped postcard one of my good friends sent me- I love postcards.

emotional journaling

And on the facing page I kept it simple- just some old paint chips I found in my old jewelry making notebook (notice the thumb-tack holes from when they were on my old bulletin board!) and journaling. It’s mainly about how emotional it’s been around here. Gracie has always been SUPER sunny and happy, but lately she’s been a little sad on some nights. She wasn’t able to articulate it to us, though- she just kept getting teary. I was feeling incredibly concerned about it- I wanted to support her and do the right thing but I didn’t want to overwhelm her, either, you know? I didn’t know if it was something at school or her not feeling well or something else going on… it was just a period of huge emotion around here.

After talking about it for several nights, we finally realized she’s really missing her grandparents- they go north every summer to North Carolina and the weeks right before they return are always a challenge for Gracie because she gets that they are coming home very soon, she just can’t really figure out the *time*. And now she understands that two weeks is actually a fairly long time (at least in a kid’s world) so she was sort of upset about it.

… and then at the end of the journaling there’s a rant about the weather… couldn’t resist. On Saturday, I spent about five hours doing two hours of swimming- I had to keep getting out of the pool and sitting around waiting for the thunder and lightning to pass. Nothing is worse than sitting around for five hours in a damp Speedo on the side of the pool, watching the weather radar and dripping. But I knew if I gave up, came in and took a shower, and the sun started shining, I’d be mad at myself for not sticking it out so I stayed out there and waited it out. I’m so ready for the storms to be over!

Anyway, it’s Friday and I’m blogging at Sprout.

Thank you so much for checking out my journal pages. Have an amazing weekend <3
