This week’s art journal…

early september art journal

Two collages and an insert of a photo and some journaling.

Another “pep talk” quote for myself. I collaged the quote over a Gelly Plate print, and then collaged some stuff over it. I also printed out and transferred the lyrics to a song I have been listening to a lot lately (“What If This Storm Ends”, by Snow Patrol).

I actually transferred the lyrics *backward*. I printed them out on tracing paper (not recommended, the paper TOTALLY got jammed in my printer) with the intention of the background becoming transparent when I glued it to the page, but a the last minute I decided to see what would happen if I transferred them print side *down* with gel medium, and it actually came out pretty decent! I didn’t want a clean transfer, so it was perfect. But again, the tracing paper in a printer- even when I glued it to a regular sheet of paper to try and ensure it might go through… the tracing paper still came right off the regular paper when it was inside the printer and jammed up everything.

A photo os the sunset from last week, the date of the week stamped on in white and then covered with packing tape (White Stayz-On doesn’t ever work for me, even when I constantly refill the pad, so I have resorted to stamping white with pigment and either fixing it with spray or taping over it if I am being super lazy.)

The back of the photo is journaling about the week, and then there’s a collage. I used black gesso on the journal page, then I cut up some scraps of paper on my desk and arranged them. I guess I am doing this a bit lately, but I really enjoy it, the whole building and structure of smaller elements, making them fit.

I had a few sheets of watercolor paper covered with paints from when I was making palettes, and then some “test” prints of cards from my Etsy shop, plus a few receipts (dentist and post office) from the last week, so I cut those into chunky shapes and went to town with the glue stick.

Not much, but I feel pretty good about continuing to work in the book a little bit every day.

passiflora bloom!

And in other news, my Passiflora bloomed! Yes, I know I posted this photo all over, but it was sort of a highlight of the week for me, gardening wise. Even though I’ve now been obsessively gardening daily for the last two years, watching a flower bloom (especially a weird looking one that I never imagined I could have in my garden) still makes me feel completely awe-struck about nature and growth and just…. life. I feel like my garden is this awesome gift, this incredibly opportunity to not only witness but *participate* in the cycles of life in such a cool way. I sound very “woo woo” but flowers and plants fascinate me. They seem so delicate, and they really *are* but then they do all this crazy work to grow and take shape.

Anyway…. it’s Friday, so that means I’m blogging over at Sprout. I have a new gardening space! And I have started planting for fall. So please jump on over and check it out.

Have an awesome Friday, and thank you, as always, for stopping by and your lovely comments.
