Sprout: Dispatches from Three Gardens launches on Monday!
“Sprout” is
Misti’s brainchild - a garden blog with different contributors. Each week, Misti,
Curtis, and I will be posting about different things related to our individual gardens, as well as our garden-related experiences.
I’m excited about this. Not only will I get to contribute and blog about gardening on a regular basis, but I’m hoping that ”Sprout” will inspire me to try new things in the garden, and jump out of my comfort zone a little bit. It’ll also give me a chance to document changes in the garden, which I wish I had started doing from the beginning.
Also, I can get sheepish about my gardening. I LOVE it, and I’m so proud of my little garden, but I break so many “rules” (mainly about what should and shouldn’t be grown in containers and in my zone) that I feel like I’m not an “official” gardener because I really just do my own thing out there.
If I see a plant I like or a seed packet that looks interesting- I try it, paying not attention to any of the information on the back of the packet or on the plant label. I have to no idea what the PH level of my soil is (and I don’t care, to be honest). I over-fertilize and over-water and over-plant. I re-use soil all the time (and often find unidentified plants growing in my soil bin, including an amazing red nasturtium and an Angel Wings rose- I guess I gave up on those seeds too early…). I plant little seedlings that I find in cracks in pots to see what they turn into. I don’t sterilize my pots in between plants. I constantly transplant. There’s a trowel (accidentally) buried under my gardenia bush. I’ve named and gotten to know the two tiny lizards that moved onto the lanai and into my garden last year and I set up little spaces for them.
You see where I am going with this? I love my garden, spend about an hour out there every single day, but I really just go with my gut. It’s a chance to be a little wild, especially since I can be a complete control freak about everything else in life.
Anyway, I hope you’ll pop over on Monday. <3
