Real life stuff: I think that after eons of being close friends with boys, I finally understand them.
Well, if you could explain girls to me I'd be forever grateful.
But I do think boys don't tend to think it what ifs so much, playing out various scenarios. More "this is the way it is" even if we might prefer something else.
Of course I'm not an expert on the whole of femininity, but let me give it a shot. Well, if a girl's interested in you, she shows you more attention than she does the regular friend. Not just attention, but she will go out of her way to understand stuff you like and even try to like it herself. She will also try to know your quirks. You may find yourself exclaiming "Wow, I didn't know you knew I liked an obscure pairing like Ron/Pansy!" You may think it similar to stalking... but it's really not.
I'd say you're only a friend if she likes hanging around with you but won't discuss the little things you enjoy that she doesn't. "You read Harry Potter? Isn't that a kids book?"
Uh, did I make sense? And how does it go for guys?
Fairly similar, at least to a degree. Expressing an interest in her and listening to her. Though some guys will talk talk talk without ever letting her get a word in edgewise, even when they are interested. But then you wouldn't want someone so self-focused anyway.
Lots of eye contact, particularly in a social or larger group setting, where you might not necessarily be talking to him. But if you keep finding him looking at you there's probably a certain interest or attraction.
Smiling. Body language. Leaning in close, especially if in a bit more intimate setting.

This is exactly what I wanted to say! I admire that in boys, actually.
Which part of girls do you want explained, then?

And if that's too much how about figuring out friendly vs interested. Because I've misread that, before, both ways.

That's just the initial attraction stuff!
