The relationship between sisters is so close that you can't bear to not let the other know about what's happening in your life. For many reasons, one could be that you need advice or help, maybe that you need to just tell someone something and you know they'll understand or you think they will. Maybe you just have to tell them because they're your sister and you've been so close to her for your entire life. Never kept a secret from her yet.
I shouldn't have told Crystal about Dragon. I was willing myself not to. She calls me to tell me about some bad day she's had, and asks me about my life and while I'm saying to myself in my head: Do NOT tell her! Whatever you do, do not tell her about Dragon. Shut up. Don't say it. Please don't say it. No, don't say it ...
Well, the whole Dragon-being-in-the-room-next-door thing didn't help matters. So, basically, the words just sprang out of my mouth before I knew what was going on. There was this pause. This dreadfully long pause that I had never anticipated. From Crystal of all people, too. She had nothing to say. Then she took a long, deep breath, and finally said,
"You have no idea what you're doing. Do you?"
Thanks. Just what I needed to hear from my sister, wasn't it? I was so angry. Angry at myself for telling her, because now she would tell her husband and my parents and everyone! She's not exactly the sort of person you tell a secret to. It took me a while to figure that out. It took me a while, you know, because as a kid I always told her all my secrets, and used to just wonder how my parents found out about them. I wasn't the brightest of youths.
Well, now she knows and I'm stuffed. Still, there's Dragon and as long as I keep her safe.
