*picks up can of "Insta-Conversation (tm)" and reads the label -
"TO USE: Light conversational touch-paper and stand WELL back. Do not use indoors. Warning: May cause loss of fingers, eyebrows, emotional barriers and excess of weeping. NOT A TOY. NOT TO BE TAKEN INTERNALLY. NOT TO BE USED IN EYES OR ON GENITALS"*
Which, flippancy aside, is (as Tiff so succinctly put) me using humour as a means to assimilate and react to something. Or, to quote so many of my WoW-playing friends....
WTF?!?!?!?!
I managed, with one (admittedly, perhaps a little insensitive) minor comment to spawn a HUGE amount of drama / talk / chitchat on this and other journals.
Jeni is a little worn out by it all, so to her go my apologies. It was, like so many things in my life of late, unintentional.
Y'know, I think I've used LJ more today than I have in the past year. Funny ol' world, innit? *lopsided grin*
I've sat here at work, checking my inbox for reply notifications, simply incredulous at the level of discourse my one smart-arse (and crap, really) joke has engendered. I'm not sure if I've missed all that by being away. It certainly is something to read but is a fine example of how one seemingly innocuous comment can be misconstrued and be allowed to run rampant.
And yes, my reply to the girl in question was dismissive and churlish; deliberately so. Partly it was because it was early morning and partly coz I just couldn't be arsed with an argument. I've had enough of them lately that another just isn't high on the agenda. ;-)
