Despite a direct order issued by the City Hall, a Moscow construction company Capital Group felt free to tear down a 19th-century building right in the city center.
The demolished house, located on Bolshaya Yakimanka Street, was a rare example of 19th-century architecture.
The building was not included in the list of specially protected architectural sights, but when the developer tried to obtain a permission to demolish it, the city authorities strictly forbade demolishing the house.
This, however, did not stop the construction company Capital Group, which ordered workers to pull the mansion down - in favor of a new office building.
