Night out at the MGM Grand

Mar 14, 2007 21:47

((Continued from hereIt had been a long time since Ginger had done this, she was back in her element. She turned to look around, seeing if there were any old faces she still knew as Danny bought his chips from the cashier. A couple of security guards nodded her way, and she smiled back in their direction ( Read more... )

As Ginger slipped an arm through his, he wondered what Ace Rothstein would say if it got back to him that his wife was escorting him around the Grand. If she wasn't concerned, which she clearly wasn't, then he wasn't going to be either.

"You're my lucky charm Ginger. Why don't you pick."

"Craps then?" Ginger cast a sideways glance at him, her smile full of mischief and excitement.

"I'm feeling lucky tonight aswell." She was already leading the way, tugging gently on his linked arm.

"Craps it is," Danny said with a smile. When Ginger said she was feeling lucky, he had to agree. He let her guide him to the table.

When you're as well known in the business as Ginger is, it's not the easiest of tasks to stay low profile. Two pit bosses acknowledged Ginger as they passed them on their way to a table.

And by the time they'd picked a table, the comp drinks were already being offered. "Champagne?" she said to Danny.

Danny took the flute. "Sure, why not? I think we qualify as high-rollers." He held up his champagne to Ginger. "Here's to sixes, sevens and nines."

She clinked glasses in response, "My favorite numbers." Ginger grinned, before turning her attention to the table.

Bets had to be placed on the other players rolls and a few losses made, before they could really play.

As the rolls went by, Danny wondered about Ginger. "Let me guess, you've spent enough time in Vegas casinos to bag yourself the wealthiest husband on the strip, right?

Won't he mind you passing the time of day with someone like me?"

Ginger pushed a stack of blue chips forwards to bet on the pass-line for the woman's second roll. She'd been watching her rolls closely and with the five and three uppermost in her hand, she was pretty sure the bet would pay off. There were no guarantees, it was guess work, but informed guess work none-the-less.

"Something like that." She smirked. "That depends, what is someone like you like exactly?"

"Me? I'm just your average Joe with two weeks and a big bank balance to kill. I'm sure you've met my type before."

He watched the die carefully as they bounced across the table.

"How about your wife?" Ginger had already noted the wedding band.

She turned back to the table, watching the die herself, hoping they wouldn't roll so far as to bounce off the near cushion. "She know you're in Vegas living the high life? Or are you here to forget about her? Like so many of 'your type' are."

"YES! I told you I was feeling lucky tonight." She beamed at him.

"This," Danny waved his ring finger at Ginger, "is to remind me. I told you she was my ex-wife."

He chuckled at the thought of being classified as a type, and at the win.

"She's in Vegas too. And as far as me living the high-life, one hand does not a roll make."

"Well actually, you told me you had an ex-wife, that doesn't stop you having a wife aswell."

Ginger placed a couple of safe bets, covering them elsewhere on the next roll.

"You also told me you had a big bank balance to kill. If that's not living the high life, I don't know what is."

She pulled the champagne bottle from the ice bucket near to them with a charming smile. "Top you off?"

Danny looked at Ginger for a moment before answering.

"Let's have a few drinks and play for a while first."

He grinned, but inwardly chastised himself for making such a comment to Ginger, who was clearly well-heeld and might easily have taken offence.

"I've only had the one wife." Danny said. "I may have money to burn, but I still couldn't afford two of them."

If Ginger was offended, it was overriden by the sheer balls of the guy. He already knew who her husband was, and if he knew of Ace Rothstein, odds were he also knew the paparazzi rumors that went hand in hand with him. There was more to Danny Ocean than met the eye.

"Well wives are an expensive thing, I don't blame you." She laughed, filling up their glasses with a playful smile.

"Wives like you are expensive, I bet. Still," Danny looked at the table and the growing stack of chips, "you look like you earn your keep, when the mood takes you."

Ginger bit her lip thoughtfully, grinning behind it. "You can't rely on luck, you can lose everything on one roll. I have expensive tastes, I need to hedge my bets."

The die were passed to Ginger, and she winked at Danny, urging him to bet big.
