One year ago today...

It was one year ago today that the world was supposed to have ended...AGAIN. Well it didn't, and Chris and I celebrated by saying our vows in front of family and friends this time last year. Just to let you all know, it was because of our ceremony that the world refused to end. LOL!
We actually celebrated our first anniversary last night because the place we went to was not open on Mondays. As it was last year, I am the one who planned all the honeymoon from home, also referred to as our Staycation Vacation. I planned a shorter version of this kind of thing for our first anniversary. For the most part, Chris had no idea where we were going and what I had planned for the staycation last year, and it is pretty much like that this year with a few exceptions.
Our somewhat extended staycation from home take two begins with the anniversary night out, and what a night it was!
A friend of mine told me about this place called Teatro Zinnzani, that I had never heard of and suggested it as a possible outing place, though he warned me that it would be pricey. It was indeed pricy, but an unforgettable night though, and worth every penny. My only regret was that we didn't have a sighted person with us to describe some of the visual things happening that we missed. Still, we could follow most of the program, and there was plenty of wonderful live music, comedy, dancing, singing, acrobatics, and fun for everyone. A five course meal of what Chris termed "Cruise ship food", meaning exotic foods with unpronounceable names and scary sounding ingredients, was served throughout the three hour show at strategic intervals. The music and singing were so good that I wished they sold CD's of that particular show. Too bad they didn't. Everyone gets all dressed up and adds funny touches to their apparel. I got myself and Chris two fun packages as mementos of the evening. Chris got a red sequined bowler hat, wild sunglasses with Jalapenos on them. A string of red beads with a plastic Jalapeno on it and a Jalapeno shaped candy. I got a white feather boa, a tiara hair clip, a dozen wooden roses that can be placed in or sprayed with perfume, and we picked up two catalogs so the sighted people in our lives could see what the place was like. The show was called Calliente, and it was Latin based but funny as all get out. The whole show is in a circus tent that is big enough to seat about 85 people and the house was packed. The theme based food was awesome, the music was loud enough to know you were listening to live music by the thumping dance beat, but not so loud that you could not enjoy it. The singing was amazing, and the comedy and stunts were funny. Apparently people would even do gymnastics and dance all throughout the areas and even above the eating people, though I am not sure they actually did that in this particular show. How I wished that we had a sighted person with us to describe what was going on! It was so fun!
Alex was still awake when we got home about 10 and when Chris and I walked in with all our fun stuff on us, he asked if we had gone to Mardi Gras or something. We even had a photo taken and given to us in a fancy cardboard frame. I will have to get someone to scan that photo so I can post it on Facebook.
Today on our actual anniversary, we are going to take it easy. We are going to eat the traditional piece of the wedding cake that was carefully saved from last year. (I hope it is still edible,) and toast to our first anniversary with Strawberry sparkling wine poured over fresh strawberries.
I will try to post the other activities planned for our Staycation round 2 as they happen.
