Not a big newsflash or anything. My current big project is converting my the projects I'm supposed to be working on to Text to Speech files (.mp3) so that I can listen to them at work. Since, of course, I have so little time to sit and read in front of the computer. I've purchased a membership on
Readthewords.com . This allows me to create files of up to one hours length and to keep up to 25 files archived on the website. I've been putting it through a real workout the last couple of weeks.
Here's what I've got so far:
- The Mutant Sue Virus: All 54 chapters converted, two chapters per file. And I've discovered that the "reader" makes some mispronunciations that might be funny if they didn't happen so often. Like "Cyke" comes out "kicka". "Lauren" also doesn't handle contractions well. Strangely, Remy's pidgin French comes through better than Logan's dialect. I am not going back and editing all those chapters for phonetic spelling!
- A Place in this Life: All 8 published chapters and the unpublished chapter in progress. One chapter per file. I chose "Elizabeth" with an English accent to read. I think "she" does a better job of pronunciation and suits the piece better than the other available voices.
- Muse on the Loose: I am currently working on this piece. Some of the early chapters were shorter and I was able to do two chapters per file, but most files are single chapters. As of right this moment, I am downloading file # 15 (Chapter 20). I used "Julie" to read for this one. I thought "her" pronunciation was the most natural.
And because I was so disappointed by just how "abridged" the audiobook version of Narcissus in Chains was, I used "Emily" to record my own "unabridged" version. Which was a total pain in the ass. It is a long damned book. For reference sake, the "abridged" actor read version runs about six and a half hours. My unabridged version runs more than nineteen hours.
Oh. And yes. That's a lot more than 25 files. I just delete once I'm sure I've got the puppy downloaded properly. Anyway, I guess I can now offer Text to Speech versions of my fic by request. Though I'm not completely sure how to deliver them as some of the individual files are larger than my email will allow as attachments.
So far, it's helping me get moving on my stalled fics. So I think it's worth the $20. LOL That's it for now. I think I'm being paged.
Moo!
