Okay, because I promised and because, really, I don't subscribe to the whole "boys should be seen and not heard" thing, I'm pleased to present a little excerpt from
ReVAMPED that didn't make it into the finished book. Hey, what can I say, I tried to give the guy a chance, but the publisher insisted on all me all the time. What's a girl to do? So, behind this link, a peek into the male mind. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
You are now entering the Testosterone Zone.
Brace yourselves. From this point forward-until Gina regains the narrative-you may have no idea what people are wearing. To lessen the shock, I'll try to remember to include hair and maybe eye color, but that's where I draw the line.
So, Rick and I followed the blond preppy girl-Hailee-down the hall. Her bobbing ponytail reminded me of the bouncing ball that used to dance over children's songs on tv so you could sing along. It was just as mesmerizing. I tore my gaze away to try to follow the tour so I could build my own mental map of the school and caught Rick's gaze riveted on another swaying part of Hailee's anatomy far beneath her ponytail.
I had to admit that it was a pretty decent view, but she wasn't as curvy as Gina, who also had a whole lot more sway to her step. That girl knew how to leave a room…or enter it…or…well, stand perfectly still, to be honest, hand usually propped on one hip. I'd tried to play it cool when I saw her in the office with that goth guy drooling all over her Mary Janes…but really, did she have any idea how sexy she looked in them? Especially with her hair up in pigtails? Gah, the girl was insidious. Here I was, describing clothing, noticing hair, thinking of starting a fistfight with some pierced pinhead….
Our tour guide, Hailee, spun around suddenly, and Rick elbowed me in the ribs, but neither shook me out of my thoughts in time to raise my gaze to an appropriate level. Hailee raised her brows at me, and I'm sure I went beet red. Even my ears grew hot.
"Well, here it is," Hailee said cheerfully.
"Homeroom," Rick whispered, helpfully, like I hadn't been paying attention.
"Thanks, bro," I answered back through clenched teeth.
"Don't mention it." Rick slipped inside with a wink to Hailee and I noticed she didn't blush.
"Well, uh, thanks for showing us around. I guess we'd better let you get to your homeroom," I bumbled, feeling like I had to say something.
"No rush. I've got a pass." She flashed a dimple at me and didn't make any move to go.
"Oh, uh, well. I guess I'd better get in there then. No telling what Rick is saying by way of introduction without me there to contradict him."
"If you have to. But I'm around any time if you need me." Hailee slid a hand down my arm, shoulder to wrist, and ended with a wave and a smart turn that made her ponytail pulse. I stared after her for a second, stunned, before slipping into the classroom. There were a few empty seats, most noticeably in the back right beside Rick.
"Vampires get all the chicks," he whispered as I sat.
