I need a place to put these thoughts. They are nothing new, but they are just now solidifying in my head, so to put it here is sort of a reminder, so when I talk to my parents about taking off school, and living in South America just living to survive, they might be able to understand me.

I just realized yesterday that I am not living the life that I want to. I feel as if my whole entire life has been objectified around money. I've become a product or a commodity of my culture, and in realizing these things I vowed to myself that in 2009 I'm drastically going to be changing that. I've never felt so oppressed by my culture than I do walking into the doors of my university. Why is it that we are told we MUST go to college in pursuit of a better life? The first thing my Mother said. Money. Our entire culture and society revolves around money or monetary gain, and quite frankly I'm just fucking sick and tired of living my life for the pursuit of FUCKING MONEY. This is NOT why I'm trying to educate myself in this world. I'm going to school for Sociology, trying to figure out how I can help society progress not digress into the shit I see surrounding myself. The United States is sickening to me. I can't even really get across to you all how much corruption lies within our own community! Everything surrounding us has a price tag. Everything comes at a price. We are told day after day that we are NOTHING without whatever the fuck you could think of. Just turn on the television. What are those advertisements really telling you? How can we actually be happy with ourselves when we are constantly degraded by our media subconsciously? We live our lives day to day consuming more than ever before, wasting more than ever before, and then we wonder why there are so many problems in our society, economy, environment and so on.....

We are constantly wondering if there is more to life than this. We are told that we are free, but when I look around I see so many oppressed individuals (me being one of them) that I just can't seem to grasp a hold of this freedom that we speak so highly about. I mean are we really FREE? We are free by our own definition and standards. Our Constitution was written on the basis that everyone was free, but then we restrict voting rights to only property holding whites, who therefore in turn only continue to elect rich white officials until when???

To be continued. I have homework I need to do instead of typing out my current frustrations of our society to you all.

Good morning.
