I'm officially old. For years i've been getting gray hairs here and there but now it's out of control. I started pulling them out but i've given up, I think i'm going to have to dye my hair. I've never dyed my hair before except for a product called Sun In when I was in Jr. High. I don't even know what to ask for when I go in to get dyed and I have ( Read more... )

Aw. Grey hairs mean nothing. You're not officially "old" and you shouldn't use hair color as indication of that, if anything! But if you're going to dye your hair, definitely stick with something close to your original color or slightly darker. I'd say don't lighten. It'll dry out your hair. I kind of regret all the years I got highlights and/or lightened my hair. It really kills it...and for whatever reason, it became an addiction for a while. Costly and bad habit.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking of staying around the same color and adding a few highlights but now I think i'll reconsider. I think the reason i've never had my hair colored is because i'm cheap and it costs too much haha.

It seriously does cost too much!! When I think about how I'd pay around $100 for highlights and a cut every 6 weeks or so, I cringe. I think the older I get, the less I care about my hair looking fancy. My mom has dyed her own hair for years to cover grey. That's definitely the cheapest way to go. If you're just doing an all-over color or covering grey, it's actually pretty easy. Just sort of messy, so you have to be careful doing it at home.
