Loved this story...she'll soon have him right under her paw :) No sitting on counters though...'tis the only rule all 4-legged creatures in our home must abide by :) m

Well, the cat is smart and realizes *she's* going to have to do all the work with this human. He's a reluctant one. But he'd like her after a while. And it'd take him a long time to adjust to having her around or more than a few minutes at a time. And his meticulous nature would have a FIT over the hair-- the man would have lint rollers everywhere.
He's not the only one with a cat nosing about-- Stel also insisted suggested that Jack should have a cat as well, named Boo. And guess who had to write it...
Boo's first story
Boo is based much more off my baby cat Da than anything else. She's very different than Mac's cat but still a strong character ( ... )

I've very glad people are liking it. (I also have a 2nd story about Jack's cat, Boo, on my journal too for the animal types-- but she's a very different character and most people never saw it because it only has Jack and Boo, so it wasn't eligible for the comms.) I was rather nervous about stepping out of my box, but for stellaluna_, well... *shrugs*
I'd be honored if you recommend it. You're welcome to recommend any of my stories out to people if they so move you. (I also have a handy dandy link to an index of all of my stories that you're welcome to use in any form too.)
On a completely random note, I want to pet your icon. :-)

I was a bit nervous about stepping out of my box, but am glad to see that so many people seem to like it.
I've actually written another cat based story, (again, at the insistence of stellaluna_) but since it only involved Jack, it wasn't eligible for the comms.

I like cats, but I'm rather fond of a *particular* one. :-) (pictures below) Queen of the house, boss of everything, crazy smart, although she doesn't really *act* like a cat most of the time...
Me holding Da in her first snow
Da helping me make a scale illustration of my cool moon snail shell find
Da being very NOT impressed by my giant zucchini (I was)
Zucchini is bigger than Da

Individually, Mac and cats are both quite high on my list of interests, so Mac & a cat together? JUST MADE MY WEEK. I am always a great fan of people who can slip pets into characters' lives, but it's hard to find a story where it feels natural rather than coming across like "I wanted to include this so I did." I love that we see it from the cat's perspective, the better to let his actions speak for themselves without any analysis cluttering up its simplicity. It's all so quintessentially Mac, the initial firm "no" followed by the reluctant but steady tolerance and eventually acceptance... Watching this unfold fills me up with warm fuzzies. I'm utterly in love with this piece, and no one can convince me it is not actually happening offscreen right now.

Both Mac and a particular cat (she's currently under the fireplace at the moment) are high on my interest list too. ;-) (pictures of her linked above)
I'm not a fan of people writing characters to have pets much at all, but like I've said before, stellaluna_ asked and I'd do just about anything for her.
Writing it from the cat's perspective seemed the only natural fit, especially when Mac would be far from proactive in acquiring an animal. I always want to stay as true to the characters as possible, no matter what situation they're put in.

A compliment like that means a lot-- because when she first came to me requesting the idea, that was my reaction. And I had to spend a lot of time figuring out how I would make it work, and make it be very Mac. I strive to make him always be Mac, no matter what situation he's put in.

I've had a couple people tell me that I can handle cats very well especially, which is a really nice thing to hear. I guess the experience I've gotten in developing Jack as an original character does help in some ways, and having a wild 4-legged boss too doesn't hurt. ;-)
I also have another cat character that I've started with in Jack's universe, different than this one. You can find her debut HERE. (certified slash-free, in case that's not your thing. :-))
