Coloring and Border Tutorial

Going from:

to

In just five easy steps.

One. After cropping and resizing, I decided to flip the image, but it all depends on your image whether you wish to do this or not.

I used this from silverqe:

Set layer to dodge. 100 percent whitened it too much, so I set it to 50.

>>

Two. Let's warm up the icon, as it's a bit harsh.

New Layer, bucket filled #FFADC0

Set to soft light 100%.

>>

Three. So, I like it, but it's a bit too pink for my tastes. Let's blue it up.

I found this lazing about on my computer. [If anyone can tell me who made it, I will love you forever.]

Set to overlay 100%.

>>

Four. Ouch. Way too white for my tastes. Let's tone it down a tad.

Bucket fill a layer with #00091F. Duplicate two times.

Set first two layers to screen and third layer to subtract. All set at 100%. This is otherwise known as an exclusion layer, so next time you see that on a tutorial, this is what you have to do. XDD

>>

Five. Now for the easiest thing in the world: Border.

On a new layer, select a rectangle in the middle of your picture. I made the rectangle at 93 x 93, nice and even. Then invert selection. Select > Invert and fill with white.

I imagine you can't see it on this background, so just highlight it.

And finished! Only in five super easy steps.

Now go out and make some icons!

Good courtesy suggests comment & credit if taking icon. No hotlinking either.
