Bet you weren't expecting a post.

I think it is usually best to make a post the second you can not remember what your last post was about. Besides, I can't think of the last time I made a decent one.

Lately, I have felt very sociable. The cast of people I associate with has grown so much that I will just throw down a list of of all these cool folks at Mercer. The only order is as they come to mind or as I decide to sort them later...we'll see.

The Roommates:

Jay - One day there will be an epic battle between good and evil, and soon after that Jay will wake up and throw a bottle at the winner's head. Jay is constantly shifting in my opinion of him. He can be an insensitive, rude, disgusting, angry, and violent asshole one second and the other he can be calm, hilarious, jovial, and swell to hang around with. Me and Jay are an odd match. We agreed, back in the day, that if neither of us could make the other laugh we'd have killed each other long ago.

Michael - He lives twenty feet away and I think I've seen him less than anyone else. He's too quiet and unsocial sometimes. I think he's still an English major, but who knows. Michael is one of my oldest friends and sometimes I feel like that's slipping away.

Vinh/Tom/Rilo/Gavin/Seamus - Sometimes I feel like we make fun of him for being Asian too much. He'll be on the Atlanta campus next year, but I have his AIM so I'll try to keep in touch. He's a fun/funny guy to hang around.

The Other Room Mates

P.T. - "Matthew Pantle Thomas" became P.T. sometime last year. Besides, being 1/3 of the Matt's in the room means abbreviations and changes to the name are frequent. He's the Computer Engineer who'll be going to seminary after college to become a pastor. He's fun to hang around with because he doesn't curse (which lessens the group total of 'dirty words per minute') and despite all the horrible things we tend to say...he's a good person. Oddly, as far as the roomies go, P.T. sort of sits in some balanced position of leadership. Meaning, the quickest way to drag someone else along with your plan is to tell them that P.T. is coming to. It doesn't make any sense unless you're here. P.T., Kellen, Matt, and Jack will be living together in the Garden Apartments next year. I am jealous as I'll be down stairs of Mercer Hall. If anything ill befalls one of them...I'm stealing the spot and I'll fight Res Life tooth and nail for it.

Matt - The true social butterfly of the group. Though to be absolutely correct: He’s more a spider who draws in the unsuspecting. We call him a whore (among other things) continuously. Over the past four or five weeks, Matt has brought in and introduced a number of young ladies for movie nights, studying, or just hanging out (we’ll get to them later in the list). Some have been wierded out and never returned, but a surprising number have stayed and been welcome additions to the scene. How he manages what he does without his girlfriend castrating him, I’ll never understand. If there is anyone this year I think I have come to a better understanding of this year, it’s Matt. I have faith that nothing he does (despite appearances) goes against his loyalty to Catherine. He has introduced me to many people this year and I am ever thankful to him. The slut…

Jack - As always…Jack is border line inappropriate at all times. He’ll say something awful about women’s rights, any race you can think of, dead babies, etc. Thankfully, he is joking about it and doesn’t mean it…or at least that’s the hope I have everyday. He really is a good guy, though.

Kellen - Because I know he’ll read this: HE’S SO EMO I WANNA CUT HIM. After Matt, Kellen is probably the next person I have grown to know better out of our little group. He likes his Vodka and Schnaps. He likes the dark.

John - Hasn’t been much of a presence this late in the semester, but it’s still good to see him every now and then. I’m glad to see him and Jamie dating. They look happy together. Another good guy to know even if he isn’t always around.

(These next few aren’t technically living on the hall but they’re around enough to where they have earned mention)

Cheyenne - So many things to say about Cheyenne. She’s quirky and spontaneous (both meant in the best ways of course). Her background gives me a new insight to the ways of the world, and I am always glad to have new perspectives on things. Jack always questions why she and Rich are dating. He sees the whole thing as crazy. I see it as a perfect pair and hope it remains thus. On few occasions have a seen a match that makes more sense and I hope them all the best. Hopefully, Cheyenne will remain to fight against the scourge of the dread Captain Jack “Ironfist” Black as we sail the rough and choppy seas of the journalism major.

Jamie - She dated Jay back around Christmas so she was around a lot back then and even after they broke up her little group would still hang out. Now that she’s with John they hardly ever stop by, but it’s cool because she looks happy when I do see her.

Rachel - She’s gone MIA this last half of the semester, holed up somewhere on the fifth floor I think. Rachel is alright to hang out with, I don’t know what happened between Jamie and her.

Morgan - Another MIA. She seemed pretty cool the few times I saw her. Haven’t seen her since she and Jeff broke up. I don’t know what happened there…but I think Jeff was an asshole (according to what I’ve heard).

The Gals (I made the list first and then added my notes of them…I was amazed that the list here was done alphabetically)

Adrianna - Such a big heart. No one as sweet. How could anyone have anything bad to say about her? So far as I know her, anyhow. Always caring about everyone it seems.

Alice - Always thinking, or so it seems to me. If Matt weren’t with Catherine I was force these two together. Alice is as intelligent as she is funny…which miraculously I can say for all of these women. They’re all so smart they scare me. They seem to remember the details of their lectures about philosophers (from GBK or where ever) in such great detail I shudder to think about it. I have not the memory for such things and they amaze me with it. Now that I know Alice, I think it might take me the rest of my life to understand.

Alison - Different from the rest because she doesn’t live or hang out with any of them despite living in the same building. Alley shows up on the occasional movie night and tends to talk occasionally. She is majoring in business with a minor in art, I think. She should talk more instead of being a fly on the wall.

Kristen & Lynn - The only two on the list not to be separated on account I have never seen one without the other. Lynn is often wide-eyed, trying to take everything in while Kristen seems either bored or amused (I have yet to tell). The two playfully fight over something almost every time I see them. I can’t tell what kind of a vibe I get from Kristen, to be honest. Does she hate me, think I’m not funny, or what? I think she was having boyfriend issues last night, hope she’s okay. Though with friends like Lynn there isn’t too much worry.

Laura - Adorable Lil’ Laura…any time she tells a story her arms flail about to add emphasis. We talked her into coming to eat last night, and I’m glad she came because I think we all had a good time just hanging out.

Melinda - Melinda and Stephanie are the girls that are probably the easiest to hang out with our strange bunch of guys for this one fact: They admit to, and will play, videogames. Where most of the others tolerate our “happy diatribes” about video games, these two can come back with their own game stories. Which makes them “cool chicks” in my book. Melinda claims to not having many female friends in high school because she hates all the drama. That’s another fine reason to associate with her. Not to mention, compared to most of the others, she’s pretty laid back about things.

Stephanie - I left Matt’s room last night and she was still playing Windwaker…hardcore. She twisted/broke/yanked/pulled something in her knee when a few of them went swing dancing Friday. So she’s been laid up in the room with her leg propped up…she may have spent the night there…I dunno. She’s from the same hometown/school (Savannah) as Jack and that’s pretty cool to see Jack talk about something other than Warcraft and Jews. Steph…hooray for Steph. I say the because I know there are a lot of interesting things to say, but for the life of me I can’t think of what.

The “Older” folk

Laurel & Chris - Because they’re both RA’s they don’t get to hang out with us as much (mostly because we hang out in Matt’s room…sometimes very late into the night and that would be a big no-no). Chris did finally “pop the question” to Laurel this year so there is that sigh of relief. For some reason beyond my knowing, Chaz and Miranda haven’t been hanging out with them much at all this year.

Miranda - Oi…Miranda. I think I wrote down somewhere the phrase “Cute & Napalm.” Miranda took off a semester because she had a lot of life issues to deal with and so has not been doing much other than playing World of Warcraft and playing with their new puppy, Gidget. She keeps Chaz on a relatively tight leash and has been known to be a tad jealous. A hippie at heart. The two are still a really good match.

Chaz - He’s gone from RA to one of my best friends in the two years I have known him. He has more stories and life experience than I will ever hope to have. He amazes me. Chaz is funny, and I will never dispute that fact. I think Chaz needs to write for someone…I don’t know who. SNL, MAD TV, something where they will look at him and say “Be funny” and let him just work with that being the only order given.

Other fine folk that I don’t see much of because of some reason or another:

Corey Bennett - Have not seen much of you since the first year, I do try to keep up with your journal when I can. When I do see you, it’s the nod and “Hey, how you doin’?” and I apologize for that false greeting that is so common.

Corey Grimsly - He comes down for the random visit sometimes and that’s always a fun weekend.

Adam - Hasn’t stopped by in the longest for whatever reason, hope school is going well.

Jeremy & Arjun - Two more pirates at sea under the banner of Capt. Black.

Well, I think that about covers everyone. If you can think of anyone who was left out or if you disagree with something let me know.

My social circle has truly grown and I am ever proud of that and of everyone within it.

This has been another fine year for growing in the mind as well as the heart…a shame about my gut though.
