Dean has lost contact with Sam due to his refusal to become Michael's vessel. Five years later, he is empty. What happened within those five years and what will happen after? And, more importantly, is this real or hallucinatory? ( cast )
"We both know that I am a male, Dean," he pressed. "You do what you always do," he said, leaning back in his chair just the slightest. "Keep saying no to Michael. Look for an alternative to the apocalypse. There is not much I have to say that you do not know already."
"And what will happen if I say yes, Cas?" Dean's eyes widened slightly, barely noticeable. "Sam dies. Lucifer dies. Everybody dies."
Dean sighed, running a hand through his hair. "It's a no-win situation and I'm not killing my brother."
He blinked. "But I'm not letting anyone else do it either."
"Goddammit!" he was frustrated now. "Why couldn't I have been Lucifer's vessel? Then Sam could just send me back where I came from. Then things would be the way they're supposed to - the way they have to be!"
Castiel remained motionless, used to Dean yelling and venting at him when there really wasn't much that can be done. "There is no use in wishing that your destiny was different," he said stoically. "I suggest you exert your energy in more productive things than whining."
"Like what? A scrapbook?" Dean narrowed his eyes. "Dean and Sammy's big adventure. This is the one that killed their mom. Then there's this one that killed our dad. And this one and this one. Finally, here's Michael himself all high and mighty." Dean's voice boomed at the last bit.
Cas was determined to give Dean the support he needed, but he wasn't going to coddle him. And he sure wasn't going to let Dean go stomping all over him like some door mat. He reached a hand out and touched Dean's throat lightly and rendered his vocal chords useless. "You can hunt Lucifer before he gets to Sam."
"We know that he is an angel," Cas answered, "and we have two things in this room that can kill an angel." Granted, Cas knew that it would take more than the usual to take down Lucifer.
(Sorry for the late response; didn't realize you had replied)
Dean frowned and looked Castiel dead in the eye. "You make it sound easy." He rolled his eyes. Just like Cas to state the most obvious thing in the world.
"You make it sound impossible," Castiel countered. He was not very good at humor or jokes but sometimes, he was able to come with a decent enough come-back. He exhaled slowly and looked at Dean squarely. "We must gather as much information as we can before things get out-of-hand."

He ran his fingers through his hair - it would be considered a mess if it wasn't so short. "But you're right."

He straightened up his posture. "So I will follow your lead."

He wet his lips. "Go to the library or something. I don't know. I wish I had a laptop so I wouldn't have to set foot in one of those places."
He had a disgusted look on his face. "Bad experience."
