Scarlett Johansson TUTORIAL

Oct 27, 2007 23:42

I got many complimets about an icon I made, so I thought I'd make a tutorial about that. I haven't tried this colouring on any other icon, so I'd love to see what you come up with, if you happen to use it!

There it goes:

- I use PS CS
- Includes selective colouring, so it's not translatable, sorry!

Ok so... first of all this is my first tutorial so bear with me if something is not clear, but feel free to ask!

Take your base, crop it as you like and do whatever to usually do to make it nicer. I usually soften the skin and sharpen the details, but in this case I didn't.

This is my base:

Duplicate your base and set it to SCREEN, opacity 54%, you should get this

Duplicate your screen layer and set it to SOFT LIGHT, opacity still at 54%

Add a new fill layer, colour #080C26 (a dark blue) and set it to EXCLUSION, opacity 100%

Add a new fill layer, colour #D8D3D3 (a very light grey) and set it to COLOUR BURN, opacity 100%

Add a new fill layer, colour #F7F5E9 (a yellowish white) and set it to MULTIPLY , opacity 100%

Add a SELECTIVE COLOURING adjustment layer, select the reds and put cyan to +16, then neutrals and change the numbers to: cyan -39, yellow -1.

Now, something I do pretty often, but that's not necessary.

Add a new empty layer on top, take a small rounded brush, pick a blue colour and make two dots on the eyes, do the same with red on the lips. Now set this layer to SOFT LIGHT, opacity 100%. in some cases you can use SCREEN as well, depends on the effect you want to have. Also pay attention to the colour shades you pick, cause they can have quite different results according to your base :)

Now you're finished with your base!!

if you want to customize further, this is what I did.

Add this light texture by me
, rotate it so that le lights are on the left and set it to SCREEN. Move it a bit, so that it doesn't cover your focus of attention, if needed.

Now add text... I set mine to COLOUR BURN 100%, it's quite hard to see though

Duplicate the text layer and now lower to opacity to 50%, to make it stand out more, add a glowing effect

Last step, create a new empty layer, take a small text brush, pick the same colour your used for the text and put it right under it. i always try to add brushes on a new layer, so that I can eventually delete some parts i don't need or I can move them to find the right place...

Done!

As I said, I haven't tried it on anything else, so I'd love it if you could show me what you came up with using it!
Also, feel free to comment if you found it useful!

COMMENTS ARE ♥ ... It takes a second to show appreciation :D
