One of Will's favorite phrases lately, along with "Halloween is coming up!" and today, "Will has a tail! Luna, Will has a tail too!"
Backing up, starting with my good ol' exercise. 5:15, after I couldn't fall asleep until 1 am (worked late on a particularly frustrating edit, and knowing I had to wake up early didn't help me wind down and fall asleep). If only I could have the tenacity and follow-through I do with Camp Gladiator in other areas of my life (like cleaning?) . . . I got there and realized the trainer's ipad is STILL broken, meaning another one I couldn't check in for. I think I'm going to stop going to hers so I can get my dang tshirt! It's too bad though because I like her workouts. Today I also discovered I like sprinting. I've never really tried it, other than quick informal races. The trainer gave us a few pointers on sprinting, though, and when I tried it I couldn't quite beat the guys (close!) but was faster than all the other girls. It was fun to have something to feel a little competitive about, and I loved the rushing flying feeling. It was a good workout without giving me the side aches and painful, tight-chested breathing distance running always does.
When Will woke up we made a batch of pumpkin pancakes; this time I used regular milk instead of the sour milk I had before, and honestly, I think the sour milk ones turned out a lot better. I think I'll at least have to sour the milk myself from now on (lemon juice or vinegar method), because I think it makes a big taste difference. Also I think I dumped in a little too much cloves or allspice this time.
Then we put Will in his pumpkin shirt and went to the park to see the leftovers of last night's Pumpkin Shine. I've never been to one because it's always been crowded, but it's some kind of event where people (especially school groups and other organizations) display pumpkins they've carved or painted, and there are prizes and stuff, etc. We got there about 9:30 and a lot of them were already cleaned up; they had a big garbage truck they were just chucking them into. So many aborted pumpkin pies!! Not that I have a ton of freezer room, but I was tempted to rescue some of those. Here are some of the ones we got pictures of:
I hope someone rescues this cute little R2D2 before he gets tossed in the trash compacter.
Speaking of, it took me a minute to realize this was a death star. Cute little polka dot death star? Apparently it won a prize.
I think the second Cinderella must have done something to irk the fairy godmother, cause her pumpkin carriage has some serious rotten upholstery.
Louisiana pride.
The pretty realistic food ones. Wonder why they didn't get prizes?
Always love a good Calvin and Hobbs pumpkin. And cute kitty (and Will)!
Out of all of them though, pretty sure this is my favorite:
I have no idea what this is supposed to be. Other than Lavos spawn.
After the pumpkin walk we went to library storytime, then came back home and finished Will's costume. Which pretty much brings us to tonight's trunk or treat:
Unfortunately you can't see the tail. We'll have to get some better ones on actual Halloween.
He's definitely had better frowns in his youth.
I am pretty fond of how his trick-or-treat bag turned out. Btw, I'm supposed to be Grumpy's owner, Tabatha Bundeson:
I meant to get a picture where I mimicked this pose (I was wearing a red sweater over my black dress) but didn't. Oh well. I was also wearing Grumpy Cat leggings which aren't shown. Again, second chance Saturday I suppose.
People were pretty creative with their displays, but there was one that Will was completely fascinated with and we could barely drag him away from it:
Yes, the blinking evil clowns. He would just stand there, staring, and neither candy nor games nor a cute real live fluffy poodle could draw him away from those awful clowns.
