GMs' take on Dave Tippett

Here are the opinions of the new GMs on the status of Dave Tippett and the coaching staff:

Hicks said he believes hiring and firing a coach is the job of the GM (GMs?):

"It’s my plan that Dave and his staff will coach the rest of the season," new interim co-GM Les Jackson said. "Could something change during the season? Of course, that’s always a possibility. But we don’t expect that to happen."

The contracts for Tippett and the coaching staff of Rick Wilson, Mark Lamb, Andy Moog and Ulf Dahlen expire at the end of the season. Just as it is with the interim co-GM experiment, the coaches are scheduled to be re-evaluated at the end of the season.

Fellow co-GM Brett Hull said he believes Tippett is the right man for the job.
"He’s a bright coach with a lot of good ideas," Hull said. "I have a lot of respect for him."

Tippett said he and Armstrong had open conversations about players and expected the same relationship with Jackson and Hull. While Armstrong had some irons in the fire and was looking to make trades, Jackson said he expects the team to remain the same on the short-term.

"I think we need to assess what we have before we start talking about moves," Jackson said. ``We need to get established and on the same page first."
