there are a couple things i would like to say. first of all, i don't think i know anyone who would stay in on a friday/saturday night because they wanted to check facebook profiles instead of going out. i'm not saying that there aren't people who would prefer to stay in on a weekend night... i'm one of those people on a pretty regular basis, and i might happen to look at the facebook while i'm not going out, but let me assure you, stalking people through facebook is not my motivation for staying in. second of all, you're completely right about people judging you based on the groups you join. well, to a certain extent. i knew someone freshman year who was completely straight edge, and wouldn't drink at all. then, some time during sophomore year, they joined the "39%-ers" group on facebook, which led me to believe (correctly) that they had started drinking. on the other hand, you have to take everything you read on facebook with a grain of salt. a lot of it is a joke... and i would never judge someone based on what was in their profile... it might make me think a little bit, though.
ok, so what's the attraction? personally, it's a tool of procrastination. and there's something about anonymously stalking people that is a bit appealing... i don't know, maybe i shouldn't have admitted that, but i feel like i'm not in the minority by any means.
