BERNADETTE ST. CLAIR
known as:
bernadette lefevre.
age: approx. 175 years old.
house: odessa.
Bernadette Lefevre is known to most as the bratty, easily angered minion of
Mother who is rarely seen out of the company of her twin brother and fellow Frenchman,
Marceau. However, as with all things in the Coven Odessa, not everything is as it seems. The truth is, the vampire called Bernadette Lefevre is in fact neither French nor a twin-- or even a Lefevre.
She was born into an old English vampire family, pureblood and neutral. The Saint Clairs. For several centuries, the St. Clairs have shared a close and unbreakable bond with the Haverbrooke family, a bond forged many, many years earlier by the patriarchs, who were best friends like brothers. They had made it a tradition to raise their children in pairs, one Haverbrooke for one St. Clair, and to train their children to work seamlessly together. The St. Clairs and Haverbrookes have been working together since probably the Black Plague, and they're secret-keepers, as well as record-keepers and story-tellers. Sometimes as a gift to the established covens, the St.Clair-Haverbrookes would send away a pair of their specially trained children to become members of said covens. Valuable gifts-- these children could tell the grandest lies and protect the darkest secrets.
Bernadette has been in the company of
Marc Antony Haverbrooke since the day she was born. Together, they serve Mother as her best liars, defending the secrets of the Coven Odessa and extracting the secrets hidden by the other houses. She has recently become the mother of twins herself, as part of a business arrangement with the Coven Sevelin's
George Young IX. He, Mother, and Marc are the only existing beings who know her real identity.
LADY
formerly:
alice white.
age: 54 years old.
house: voránti.
The volatile vampire cannibal known only as "Lady" was once a young woman named Alice White. These days, she can't remember what it was like to be human or who she was-- the trauma of her abrupt change, the onset of her defining madness buried her memories deeply. She is the fledgling of
Poet, the acting leader of the Coven Voránti, and considered one of the house's most powerful vampires. A member of the "triumvirate": Poet and his two fledglings. She is known for her fluid nature-- sometimes loving and motherly, sometimes raving mad, and sometimes tragically lucid.
Her first several years as a vampire were spent alone with Poet and his first fledgling,
Rook. Adjustment was difficult for her, and she developed a sometimes desperate need to be loved by those around her. Her jealousy and her affections can be terribly violent-- and at the same time, she is usually gentle and mild-mannered. Volatile and unpredictable, Lady is often treated with wariness and care by the other Voránti. Poet is careful to enforce the hierarchy of their coven by punishing disrespect for Lady, despite her tantrums and instability. Her fledglings are
Key and her constant companion,
Knight, who was made by Poet but fed by Lady. She also has a deep, sometimes frightening affection for the other members of her coven-- save Rook, who she competes with for Poet's love.
LOTTIE MOONJAVA MONROE
age: 43 years old.
house: grateful dead.
Lottie Moonjava Monroe was born the daughter of tree-hugging, goddess-worshiping hippies who had been born into the era of love and rock and roll. When she was made into a vampire on her twenty-first birthday, Lottie took with her all her free-spirited, peace-signing ways-- daisy chains, Double Bubble gum, joints, and big shirts. She is famous for her pet names and friendly groping, as well as her easy and whimsical nature. Her playfulness has a lazy quality to it, and she is-- as many members of the Grateful Dead are-- uninterested in war. Just love.
Lottie lives in the big old house with the other members of her coven, often keeping cats and flower pots in her room. She spends a great deal of her time expressing her affection for
Beetle, who she fondly dubbed "kittentits."
CHARLOTTE DE BARRY
age: 374 years old.
house: the bremen.
Born in England, 1636, Charlotte de Barry was the wife of a sailor. She disguised herself as a man to follow him on his journeys and was his fierce ally in battle, until a jealous officer attempted to get her husband killed on dangerous jobs. Her husband evaded these traps with her aid-- until finally, the officer had him sentenced to death for mutiny. Embittered against men and their weaknesses, Charlotte murdered the officer before escaping. She would later be picked up by a merchant ship-- and forced by the captain, a rapist and a tyrant, to be his wife. Again, disgusted with the base nature of men, Charlotte escaped by convincing the crew to mutiny. She cut off the man's head herself and took the ship as her own.
It was never clear to historians how or when Charlotte de Barry died. As it happens, she was changed by an old vampire, worshipped by cannibals on an island where her ship wrecked, and for several decades, she disappeared from human society. Years later, after meeting pirate
Anne Bonny, Charlotte began collecting women pirates and privateers for herself-- giving them the greatest gift she could offer: immortality. She assembled her crew, which would eventually become the coven called the Bremen. Women, pirates, and vampires. No men, she had no tolerance for men on her crew-- except for her son, pirate prince
James Alday. Serious, strong, and with subtle wit sharp as a blade, Charlotte runs a tight ship.
