all done with finals! just have to retake perio(just 4 classes) and retake the 1st part of my boards(anatomy) for this summer. both should be done before the end of july. still have some clinic requirements to finish up. hopefully get those done before the end of august.
in the middle of my 2nd oral surgery rotations. like the first go around, it's alotta fun, but extremely draining. gotta get there 7:45 for lecture and then stay till 8pm. either extremely busy or extremely bored. went to bellevue hospital to help out w/ extractions there yesterday. it's alotta fun in a hospital setting. don't really need to do much paperwork. walk into a room, introduce myself, find out what's wrong, report to whatever res is in charge, do a quick summary of what's going on and then go extract teeth. the environment in there is really cool. the 4-5 residents in there are really nice and i got to see some cool procedures(draining of an abscess, popping out 3rd molars). this doesn't make me wanna become an oral surgeon or wanna do a gpr(general practice res) at a hospital tho. i might do a gpr but i kno i won't be trying for oral surgery. i'll stick to general dentistry thankyouverymuch. plus oral surgeons are really rough with their patients. they give injections in less than 5 seconds. here mosta us take our times w/ the injections so as not to hurt the patient too much, but the old faculty, they just stick the needle in w/ such force and inject w/ such speed, it makes all of us cringe(and the patient scream in pain). speaking of the faculty. this time around, they're much nicer and easier to get along with. maybe it's cuz they've either given up on us or feel like they don't have to step in as much to save us from another dumb mistake. they joke around and let us do whatever we think is necessary with the patient.
haven't been able to extract many whole teeth so far. just root tips. today's was interesting(if not kinda disgusting). guy comes in w/ excruciating pain(and a coke habit). take a look inside and see 2 root tips where his lower right 2nd molar used to be. slight swelling and lotsa pain. give him a few injections and start trying to take it out. cuz of the infection in there, he would not get numb. gave him some more lido. finally he just says he'll bear it. the lady in the next chair is screaming "i'm gonna die" over and over(no idea what's going on there). that doesn't make him feel very good. as i finally get a hold of a tip w/ some forceps some pus starts oozing outta the root canal. first time i've ever seen that. roll the tip out and at the end of it, see a little granuloma. pull out the other tip and that one has a granuloma at the end too. wash out the pus in the socket and send him home. 2 more days for the rotation and it's back to clinic.
need to catch up on sleep this weekend(less than 4 hours the last 3 days). wanna go golfing tomorrow, but thunderstorms throughout the week supposedly. oh well, guess i can start exercising again(it's been awhile and i'm getting fat). wanted to go down to dc this weekend to meet up with wing and jen, but too exhausted to make the trip and i need the energy for the last couple days of os.
watched toy story 2 on dvd tonite. only the 2nd time i've seen it. put me in a good mood and then did some reading afterwards(haven't done much of that lately). guess i should wrap it up and head to bed. gonna try to get 12 hours of sleep=).
