This is why I read fanfic. You learn something new every day. I feel like I speak two languages now. Ice cream cornets. Huh. Who knew??
I also read fanfic because there are ones like this that are so lovely and give me warm fuzzies and make my tummy do nice flip-floppy things. This is the perfect R/T proposal!
The sea setting is so perfect, because something about it makes it all feel so fresh and new and like Remus is turning over a new leaf, and it's so right for him to return to a happy childhood memory where his father dreamed for him and he was sheltered from the world, and he can feel young and dream dreams for himself and they can just be in their own world, as you put it so beautifully.
It's so very Remus to have planned out something Marauderish like hiding the ring in ice cream, and sorting it out with the whole Order to get her there with him and even how to get a marriage license quickly! Loved his line about spontaneity taking a lot of planning, hehe. I think it's so funny, too, that Tonks takes it as a given that #1 - they'll have to wait and #2 - he won't have a ring for her, and then we find out it's Remus who's been Mr. Optimism for once. And soon Tonks will be flashing her ring. Hee.
So many great lines in this, like this: She loved that the doubt in his eyes was not for the reasons it had been there all year, but simply because he couldn’t quite believe she’d said yes. Like she couldn’t quite believe he’d asked like that. which made me go aw and get a nice little knot in my stomach and throat.
But my favorite is this: She closed her eyes and felt the sun on her face. She’d never imagined anyone ever asking her, never imagined wanting to say yes to anyone before. Until him. Now she was having to imagine herself as a wife with a new surname (Nymphadora Lupin was the worst mouthful ever, and Lupin-Tonks was the second worst) largely because Lupin-Tonks made me snort with laughter because Tonks-Lupin and Lupin-Tonks are totally fanfic pet peeves of mine, lol.
Loved it!!

You never know when completely random ice cream info may come in handy. ;) We call them cornets or cones, but an ice cream cornet/cone like the one described here, with a Cadburys Flake bar stuck in it, is called a 99. Which, so I was told once, dates back to ice creams originating from Italy, the King of Italy having an elite guard of 99, and this being considered the 'elite' ice cream here for a while. They also used to cost 99p at one happy time...
Anyway, I just needed something handy that Remus could have a ring put on, and thought I couldn't explain all that lot! So it's a Muggle cornet for visiting witches and wizards everywhere, lol.
Ice creams apart, thank you very much for your wonderful review. Even though I ended up writing this twice, almost, it was so nice to give them a day like this and not write any angst. I thought it would be lovely for Tonks if Remus had gone to all this trouble to make it so special for her, and that taking her to somewhere which had meant so much to him when young was him really opening up and being completely vulnerable, which was the thing which would mean the most. That he would look on it as finally finding a home in the world like his father had always said, because she was with him now. I also thought it would be a nice boost for both of them if the Order were as keen for them to be together as they seemed to be in the hospital wing scene, and therefore helping in all the 'spontaneous' scheming, lol.
largely because Lupin-Tonks made me snort with laughter because Tonks-Lupin and Lupin-Tonks are totally fanfic pet peeves of mine, lol.
I can't help but think that Tonks, independent witch not-withstanding, would be extremely proud to call herself Mrs Lupin, and only that... ;)
Thanks SO much for such great comments. I did the face-splitting, deranged grin like Tonks when I read it, and am so glad you enjoyed it.:D It's made me want to write the wedding and honeymoon now, lol.
