Today's underrated gem from the musty reaches of the Vault is:
--"Everybody's Rockin'" by Neil Young and the Shocking Pinks.
Ah yes! The Neil Young album that most Neil Young fans refuse to admit that he recorded! Bad for them, good for the rest of us! Anyone familiar with Neil's work knows that he's not afraid to try something different, and "Everybody's Rockin'" was his shot at the rock-a-billy genre. He certainly didn't dissappoint. There are some rock-a-billy standards covered here, like "Bright Lights, Big City", "Betty Lou's Got A New Pair Of Shoes" and a killer rendition of "Mystery Train", but also some great original tunes like "Wanderin'" (which had a hysterical video that went with it), "Kinda Fond'a Wanda", and my favorite track, "Payola Blues".
Personally, I like all of Neil Young's "unpopular" albums, like "Trans", and "This Note's For You", but this is my favorite. (even if Geffen Recordssued him over their "total lack of commercial appeal". Idiots.) This album was out-of-print for a very long time, but is finally available again. Highly recommended.
