Today's obscure vinyl/cd is:
"Rage In Eden" by Ultravox.
Ultravox may not be obscure to most of my British readers, but sadly the U.S. audience has all but forgotten them. This is a shame, as the "New Romantic" era didn't get much better than these guys. "Rage in Eden" is actually Ultravox's fifth album, but only their second with what's considered to be their "classic line-up" of Warren Cahn, Billie Currie, Chriss Cross, and Midge Ure. Of the four albums done by the band in this configuration, this one is, in my opinion, the most cohesive. Beautifully produced and expertly played front to back. Standout tracks are "Death in the Afternoon", "The Voice", "The Stranger Within", and my favorite, "The Thin Wall". (which had a neat video, that featured Midge trapped in a Ford Popular filled with water, among other things). This album is one of my all-time favorites, and highly recommended. It's now back in print with an additional bonus disc featuring several B-sides and live tracks. Check it out.
