Children are inherently selfish. Teenagers double so. I have been reminded yet again, I fall so low on the priority list for my son I don't know why I even bother to try and be the mother he needs. Wasting time and energy on someone who isn't appreciative is extremely demoralizing. If it is a significant other, friend, co-worker that sucks the energy from you, walking away is an option. When it is your child, not so much.
