It's taken a while, but here's my Friday.
I've not been sleeping well, and woke at around six, took a painkiller and went back to sleep for a couple of hours. Dave brought coffee, then we both showered - our own 'en suite' shower currently provides only cold water, so we had to take it in turns to use the posh, relatively new still bathroom.
Quick breakfast, then both into the car. In theory. In fact, I waited, checking on my email, FB etc, while Dave vanished. Then the phone rang. He'd worked out how to link his mobile by bluetooth to the car, so was ringing me from a whole ten feet away. This is a 'new to us' car acquired last Monday. It's the same model and colour as the old one, so at a cursory glance it doesn't look very different. It's five years younger, though, and with a lot more fancy electrics - integral satnav, cameras for reversing, even a beep if it thinks you are too close to an obstacle. it takes nanny cars to a whole new level. And it's Kit, so Dave is having fun playing with getting to know it.
We called at the Medical Centre in town to pick up a prescription and drop off a request for another. Yes, we're old enough that if you shake us, we rattle. Then we took to the motorway. Dave drove and was being virtuous - well, actually, checking how the adaptive cruise control works. (It slows you down if you get too close to the car in front. SRSLY) Thus it was about one o'clock before we arrived in Rickmansworth to visit F and the wonderful Rhiannon. It was only about ten days since we'd seen her, but as they do at her age, she seemed to have made major progress. She's been on the verge of walking for a while, but suddenly, without apparently noticing, she took several unaided steps. (She's off now - she worked out what she was doing over the weekend and is a big fan.) New shoes!
F fed us, and we played with Rhiannon most of the afternoon, while F, who's had a nasty cold, was able to rest a little. Then crunch time came, and I had to make a difficult decision. R has directed a
play, which was on in London - but I didn't feel well enough to go, much to my disappointment. Dave set off to represent the family, while F, K (her husband) and I had pasta. We watched the Masterchef Final and generally lounged around feeling poorly, till Dave got back, having enjoyed
the show.
Dave had a quick coffee, then drove us home. It's about an hour and a half, and at that time of night even the M25 flows more or less smoothly. Swiftly after arriving, we collapsed into bed.
And Rhiannon is as gorgeous as ever - you didn't think you'd escape a photo, did you?
I have my operation tomorrow. As far as I can tell Warwick Hospital was not affected by the cyber attack. Wish me luck!
