Warwickshire and Worcestershire asparagus is considered the best by connoisseurs - and there's always a lot that doesn't quite make the standard of length, thickness or straightness for the restaurant trade but is still delicious eaten fresh and local!
Last weekend, I bought Madhur Jaffrey's World Vegetarian cookbook at a jumble sale, and about an hour ago I read her Asparagus section, which includes two variations on "braised asparagus with an Asian-style soy, ginger, sesame dressing" which I must say sounded nice. Even though I don't like asparagus very much.
I adore the stuff, preferably steamed and with butter or a hollandaise sauce. Madhur Jaffrey has some good recipes, but this early in the season I just want simple asparagus and lots of it!
Butter and a slight sprinkling of lemon juice is so good - and so much easier than any other way I rarely go much further. Although it is lovely in a risotto, too.
Risotto works just as well when it's older - the fresher it is, the simpler it should be. This evening we had just a sprinkling of balsamic vinegar - it worked really well.
Hmmm I forgot to mention that I ate breakfast (cereal, fruit) and lunch (fried egg on raisin bread). I presume people will figure out that I didn't go all day without eating. :) Your day sounds quite pleasantly busy. :)
LOL I love raisin bread, and these particular kind is quite small, so a sandwich is really only 1/2 a sandwich. Which cuts down on the amount of bread I'm eating.
It's the mix of fried eggs with raisins I find hard to get my head around. Fried eggs belong on a plate with bacon, mushrooms, sausage and toast! (And brown sauce, natch.)
Sounds like a very lovely day. I'm glad you're helping out R with some of the nuances of academic feedback ("more accessible" = very confused audience, though I'm sure you softened it a bit in translation!). Asparagus, though... I'm all out till the weekend when I can get to the veg stall, sigh. We usually get Herefordshire stuff for some reason round here.

It was a good day. I feel mildly ashamed I listened to the radio so long in bed, but would it have been morally better to lounge on the sofa instead?

It was a good day - busy, so less time to feel depressed about politics.
