January was the wettest winter month since records began, in the 1750s. Apparently all the snow and ice in North America is meeting warmer air from the south and causing rainstorm after rainstorm.
Locally that has meant fun of a predictable kind. The stream that runs by the Castle - and once formed an enormous mere there - is culverted under a mainish road, but when there is a lot of rain
it becomes a ford. And when there's a shitload (technical Met Office terminology) of rain some idiot always assumes
the warnings don't apply to them, specially if they are driving some poncey 4x4. (SUV)
