It's wonderful to see how much you're getting out of this on a personal level. Too many people see school as simply a place where you get a degree so you can make a lot of money and don't actually care about learning or about the process at all.

I'm in that wonderful position of not needing to get a qualification - I can just study for the sheer love of learning, go to extra reading groups and seminars if they attract my attention and, above all, not feel weird because I'm passionate about the books and ideas I love. Including Buffy. ;-)

It all sounds absolutely fascinating. So pleased you are finding it so joyful.

This reminded me of what it was like playing with my nephew when he was that age :) 7-year-olds have such unfettered imaginations.

who is very reluctant to use a pencil at all

That could be dyslexia or dysgraphia which my aforementioned nephew apparently suffers from. Unfortunately it's only just been diagnosed and he's 16 now!

I am loving it - almost indecently so.

It's fairly rare for children as young as seven to be referred for such things - I had to struggle quite a bit to get R assessed. I fear this little boy will be labelled as inattentive and disruptive by the time he's eleven. :-(
