Poll time!

R is working on an audition piece about 1950s-style marriage. Meanwhile a friend of one of my daughters became engaged recently. It had been clear for ages that they were together as a long-term couple, but she waited for him to propose to her, which he did after asking her father's permission.

My husband and I were somewhat amazed and slightly outraged. Our girls think we are odd and a little silly to take this attitude. Hence the poll - what do you think?
