I have a shiny DVD here, sent by the wonderful
hesadevil. It contains
High Plains Invaders. Lovely Cowboy!James with aliens and B-movie silliness!
It won't play. Colour me distraught. Can anybody help me, pretty please?
On the (admittedly elderly now) Dell desktop it crashes the system rather spectacularly:
Blue Screen of Death with error message: BAD_POOL_HEADER followed by a list of locations.
(STOP; 0x00000019 (0x000000x20, 0x898B66E8, 0x898B6700, ox1A030001) (I recognise this as hexadecimal but beyond that I have nothing.)
Then it says: Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Then stuff about contacting system administrator. Huh. That would be me. Or husband who says it's probably the disk. Except
hesadevil checked and it played for her.
I can get the laptop to play the sound on Windows Media Player but it gives no visuals. Real Player tells me I need to download another component to view it, then the site tells me it has no components to let me view it. QuickTime runs the disk but no sound or visuals or anything else - not even an error message. I downloaded IrfanView to try another player - it doesn't recognise the DVD and it says a component is missing: 'vids:xvid' decompressor.
So, any help gratefully, not to mention obsequiously received. It is so frustrating to be near silly James goodness, yet so far.
ETA: I downloaded a codec and attempted to download DVX, which kept on claiming it had installed but not actually doing so, despite a couple of "Reboot and install" actions. However, after the second of these, suddely WMP started showing sound and video!
So I have now watched a very silly film. I have certainly taught people who could act better than half the cast - people who never did make it into the biz. But there was a great deal of very pretty Jamesness, so I'm happy. I may even watch it again.
Many thanks to everyone who gave suggestions and/or sympathy - the Hive Mind is a wonderful thing!
