Birthday Report

Mar 16, 2006 22:23

OK...here it is. My birthday wasn't as bad as I expected (my pleasure prediction when depression gets bad is WAY off course!). In fact, it was rather splendid in a number of ways.

Started off with a doc's appointment. That wasn't so good, but I'm certainly not dying. Just...erm...some interesting digestive symptoms resulting from the surgery. I won't go into details, except to keyeri, who's apparently impossible to gross out.

Then I ended up sitting in a coffee shop, doing final preparation for my interview. On the way I got caught in a snowstorm, a hailstorm and pounding rain. In an interview-appropriate dress suit. Normally in this weather I'd have my huge parka, gloves and hat on but I'm not yet used to the somewhat interesting and sudden climate variations we tend to have here in Edinburgh!

Anyway....the interview was tough. It was a formal affair and very strict, with a number of difficult questions and scenarios. To be honest, I very much doubt I got the job (I think they were looking for someone with much more diverse corporate funding experience), but I feel I did the best I could. I'm probably going to torture myself about it all the same.

After the interview I declared it to ACTUALLY be my birthday. I met keyeri and moopet in a coffee shop that I know does decent non-dairy lattes, and found a veritable small party waiting at the table - a bunch of flowers with a number of gifts around it! Thanks peeps, it was totally unexpected and I'm now going to smell of Angel for a while longer! Though you got me many lovely pressies, the company was the most generous gift and I really enjoyed relaxing with you. :-)

Babs and I got into a long and interesting conversation with a couple of new mothers, and ended up drinking rather more coffee than originally expected....

When slane arrived we left to grab dinner at a pub in Leith, before coming home to open the rest of my gifts. I got some amazing amber jewellery (huge weakness of mine), a DVD (Jack and Sarah, one of my favourite films ever!), some CDs, chocolates and a hey-ooooooge Lush box! In general I was pretty amazed by the Birthday Stash...not sure what I did to deserve that amount... I think my friends know that their support is worth more than material goods, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the thought and consideration that went into the fantastic things I received.

After that, Matt and I settled down to watch Jack and Sarah, opened a couple of really good bottles of red wine, and now I'm listening to an Annie Lennox album and appreciating what I do have, rather than what I don't. I'm sorry I'm so depressed recently. It doesn't mean I'm not grateful for the people I have in my life, it's just a particularly difficult time for me and I'm working through it step by step.

So....thank you to everyone who's made my birthday much more enjoyable than I expected. :-)

P.S. Maliika's going mad. She's got a coloured ping-pong ball Matt bought her, and she tried to do a handbrake turn on the wooden floor earlier. Have you ever seen a cat skid for 2 metres, looking surprised? It's the funniest thing ever.
