10/26/06, My Chemical Romance @ the House of Blues: A Novella

First I must start off with a confession; up until last night I had never seen My Chemical Romance live in concert. Shocker, I know. Even to myself because I've never gone this long without seeing a band that I'm really into. kids at a show of which they are a fan of IS most definitely a force to be reckoned with. reckon with it. there was this story on the afi...somewhere, an interview or something, and davey told of a time when they were playing to about 700 over kids (not an overly big show) and the security was fucking with the crowd, manhandling them, roughing them up, so davey told them to stop it, and they didn't. they hit one of the kids on the head, i think, particularly hard, and all it took was one command from the subconsciously appointed leader of a mutually formed army.

"They hit one of you, get them."

and 200 kids pounced on the security, until davey called 'em off and made sure everyone was alright and the rest of the show was played with the kids watching out for each other. the security guys cornered davey after, threatening him but nothing too bad, i think.

i guess its just a different way of reacting to the same feelings. when you're older i suppose it all sinks in deeper, and the awe and respect is still there, only i guess you have it all in its place, hence no ripping of shirts. and fans closer to the band probably wouldn't too. the despair faction kids would totally never hurt any afi members. and MCR kids would touch, i supopse, but not rip to shreds. i believe that would be the 11-15 age group. :)

how old are you, btw? just asking, no need to answer if you don't want.

I've seen Pete Wentz stand on the security fence that keeps the fans away from the stage and kids grope him, pull on his clothes, try to pull him down, etc. I think kids would hurt band members in that setting even though they might not mean to. At that point they are so worked up and are totally caught up in the moment. They are not even thinking they are just acting on impulse, and the impulse is to be close to that person whom you worship.
