Takashi Miike's Sukiyaki Western - Django

Feb 22, 2008 15:07

Takashi Miike, best known for Audition and Ichi The Killer, has made a western semi-spoofing Sergio Corbucci's Django. It features Japanese samurai cowboys and over the top violence. It actually has an Engrish dub for the default language. Here is a small review of it from a forum member:

"Not sure if you folks have heard of this, but it's Takashi Miike's riff on Sergio Corbucci's Spaghetti Western classic. I just got my hands on the R2 SE release and it's a blast. The entire film is in Engrish which ranges from good to near incomprehensible, though it wasn't nearly as bad as I anticipated. I had no trouble understanding the film without the aid of subtitles -- which is good since there aren't any on this release. The film is a grand genre-mashup so there's no surprise that Quentin Tarantino pops up in a cameo role that is equal parts cheesy and down-right horrendous. I love the man's films but my god is he a lousy actor...and here he is epically bad. In a film where there's nary a native English speaker, Tarantino somehow delivers the worst performance. It's so bad it's good! Thankfully everyone else is pretty stellar, regardless of the dialogue-heavy script. In true Miike fashion, the flick is packed with stylish violence and kooky situations. Not to mention the production value is through the roof, especially for a japanese movie.

A solid 8 out of 10."
