SUMMARY: Post-Chosen AU; Giles and Anya taking the Tube in to work. One moment, two points of view.
1.The rumble of the train, that shifting underfoot, remind Giles of the last day in Sunnydale.
That day in memory is pain and fear -- snapshots of falling walls and falling Slayer-children, the plummet of his heart when he'd thought Anya was gone.
He links his hands over hers where they grip the steel pole (his hands on his sword-hilt as he cut his way through demons to her, the world shifting underfoot). He presses his body against hers, feeling its strength. He leans forward and breathes in the citrus smell of her hair.
Mind the gap. Here they are.
2. The rumble of the train, that shifting underfoot, remind Anya of the last day in Sunnydale.
She doesn't remember much about that day, by choice. Just pain, fear, blood. Just solitude in a demon-filled corridor and her silent, powerless wish for him, and then he was there.
He links his hands over hers where they grip the steel pole. It's warm in the Tube today, but she leans back into the press of his strong body. She tilts her head so he can nuzzle in.
They're alone in this people-filled subway car. Close the gap. Here they are.
