She was going to need it. Giles ordered burgers and sodas from the waitress and looked across the booth at Faith’s sad, pale figure.

“It’s over now. You did a good job.”

She made no answer and the sodas arrived. Giles blanched and ordered himself tea.

“What you saw,” he began. “The vision. It doesn’t mean it has to come to true.”

She looked at him.

“Faith, we defy prophecies daily. You are stronger than you realise. You are not going to blow your brains out in a cheap motel.”

“But it wasn’t me that I saw. It was you.”
