Happy New Year everyone! I hope you are having a great weekend.

My choices for today really don't have a theme, other than that I liked them. :)

My first choice is set in season 4. Buffy and Willow's dorm room is being redone and they needed a place to stay. Giles said yes, not really thinking through what a disruption having two college age girls in his place would be. The resulting noise and mess makes him a bit...cranky. When Buffy confronts him on his behavior, it leads to a yelling match and some challenges that cannot be ignored. Of course the end result is fun for both of them. This is well written and I love the ending. It's called Cranky by Gabriele Schulz and it's rated FRAO.

The other story is rather a long one, but it is quickly becoming one of my favourite stories in the fandom. (I'm sitting here thinking "how did I never read this before and why couldn't the show have ended this way???") It's set in season 6, after Rupert has left. Buffy is alone and upset on her 21st birthday. A stranger sits with her and offers to grant her a birthday wish. She wishes she had never been called as the Slayer and he grants it. Next thing we know, she's on a plane and the memories of her new life crowd out her life as a Slayer. She is a student, going to London to spend her final year of college studying at the University of London. Right after she gets there, she meets a very nice man in the park when his dogs knock her down. His name is Rupert Giles and somehow, they know each other. He is the head curator of the British museum and he falls madly and completely in love with her. They end up in bed together and he asks her to marry him. It's all going so well. And then, one of the Powers that Be comes to tell Buffy that the man who granted her wish was a demon and he did it so a weaker Slayer would be guarding the Hellmouth and he could take it over. She's told she must go back to her old life. She agrees, only on the condition that Rupert gets to keep this much better life. Done. Thing is, he remembers her and he must find her. Now, she is in this whole new life where Wes has always been her Watcher and Angel was sent away in the first few weeks and Willow never went bad and her mum is alive and Kendra and her Watcher are helping Buffy and Wes hold the Hellmouth. Will Rupert find the woman he loves? If he does, how will that change things? This story is long. It took me about two hours to read it. But it is AMAZING. It is so well written and I'm stunned with the author's ability to keep everyone in character, while taking them so far from the standard storyline. It's exciting and romantic and engaging and the ending is SO worth the read. (I love it when everyone gets to be happy and everything gets tied up in a nice, satisfying bow.) I cannot gush enough over this story. Set aside a few hours, curl up with some warm tea, and read this! It's called A Different Life by Rari Coss.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!
