Five Giles genfics from 2007
buffyversetop5 is now open for year-end recs of Buffyverse creations new in 2007. Here's a list I just posted of 5 genfic stories I enjoyed this year. All of these are repeat recs, but hey! Why not read them again and leave some feedback if you liked them? And if you're really inspired, you could write your own top 5 lists for the year for the comm.
theblackmare: Blood Oranges - Giles/Buffy friendship, FRT
The Gentlemen have been defeated, and Sunnydale has recovered its voices, but the aftermath is still with Giles, and with Buffy as well. Giles has found blood oranges at a local market. He makes marmalade, with Buffy's assistance. And the two patch some rifts.
Sense-rich writing and a tender take on the Giles-Buffy relationship are some of the reasons I love this story. (Full disclaimer: I beta-read this.)

Some time post-Chosen, Giles attempts to make sense of the blooming, buzzing mess of China, prodded by Buffy and Dawn. Only he seems to be coming down with something. He had the flu while he was there, as well, and it all gets muddled.
How can I convince you to go read this? I should mention the details that persuade you that this was indeed what happened when Giles went to retrieve Chao An. And I should mention the gruff and clumsy but well-meaning and affectionate Buffy. And the neat person Dawn is. And the Giles voice, which feel just perfect.

Giles performs his last duties as a Watcher, preparing his Slayer for her last mission. Intercut with the post-"Gift" realities is a lecture he sat through in 1975, from a Watcher who'd been there before him.
Ouch.

Giles in his apartment, post-Becoming. He has the chills.
This one is heart-breaking: it feels utterly sweet, like all the comfort for his hurts you wish canon had given him. Then you gradually understand.

Giles's mother has died, and he must travel to her home and pack up the remains of her life. He stands between his past and his unknown future. A bittersweet and beautifully detailed look at what Giles's life before Sunnydale might have been.
