A Hairy Situation

Dec 21, 2010 09:51

Even when I was a little kid, I always thought long hair was really cool. It just seemed like every celebrity that I looked up to had long hair. Unfortunately, way back then, my mom used to make me get a haircut quite regularly, so I wasn't able to start growing it out until I was in eighth grade. Beforehand, I had always assumed that I had ( Read more... )

Hair genetics go through the mom's side- I'd check out your grandfather on that side of the family. If your brother still has his hair, good chance that you will too. :D

That's interesting, and slightly encouraging. Unfortunately, my grandfather on my mom's side died before I was born. I don't think he was bald or balding, but I'm not really sure. I'll have to ask my mom.

My brother's hair is dark and straight, like my mom's. I seem to have my dad's hair, however. I've seen pictures of him when he was a teenager and in his early twenties, back when he was going through his hippie phase, and his hair looks almost identical to mine.

I saw the music video for "Bulletproof" late one night on VH1, and I liked the song, so I looked her up. Lately I've gotten to where I prefer listening to women singers as opposed to male singers. And La Roux's music is catchy and kinda reminds me of 80's pop. Plus she looks like the androgynous offspring of Conan O'Brien.

LOL she does. I just like that she's bringing more house-type music into the genre but I don't think it will make it all the way. House is awesome. What other stuff have you been listening to? I need some music recs.

Narkoleptik's right-- I think baldness runs through the mom, so I'd ask her about it.

Lol. I worry about this same issue too. My mom's hair is really thin, and though no one in her family is bald, it's... still a worry. Even more so for me being a girl. Lmao. Also, though, I've been told that in the fall/winter, hair tends to shed a lot more than in the spring/summer, so maybe that has something to do with it?

And this is judging purely from pictures of the back of your head, but I like it shorter! It looks fluffier and bouncier. I don't know. It looks pretty cute.

Thank you. I do think it looks better when it's cut. That's always when I get more compliments and girls flirting with me and whatnot. I tend to have more self-confidence then, too, and I spend more time admiring myself in the mirror. LOL.

But I don't know. I've just gotten used to getting my hair cut only once a year. Usually in the summer is when my hair's the longest. And that's when I tend to have more of the wannabe rockstar look going on. In the winter I dress more normal, so the shorter hair fits better.

Before the lady made that comment about my hair not being as thick as it used to be, I was actually thinking about getting it cut relatively short, just to try something different for awhile. Now I'm thinking I need to let it grow really long again so that, if need be, I can cut it and glue it to other parts of my head.

I can sympathize! I hate keeping up with my hair, which is the reason why it's so long right now because I haven't cut it in nearly... two years? I go through a cycle of cutting it really short and growing it really long, but it's mostly out of pure laziness than anything else. Summer's a good time to go for a rougher, more casual look, but sometimes I really do suspect long hair is really only nice in theory. Funnily enough, late fall/winter is usually the time I start wanting short hair, which everyone tells me is counterintuitive because more hair=more warmth, but it's really more like dry air+coats+scarves+hats=lots of static.

You can always try getting a weave or extensions!

Or I could just wear a large ostentatious hat every day.

Hmn, hair supposedly changes in "consistency" every 7 years or so. I used to have perfect curls as a kid, now it's just thick and wavy. It's also one of the ways the body lets you know how you're doing health-wise. So it could be diet-stress related as well.
