Don't get me wrong, it's been a given that the storyline was going to go this way, ever since we got the cloned Kandorians but, yeah, here comes General El of Krypton Kandor.
Oh Zod, you Magnificent Bastard you, since Clark is probably going to fail in his efforts to "save you" since you probably have no intention of being saved, when you do take over Earth? It won't be your insigna on the standard you use but the House of El's.
What better revenge could you have on Jor-El that peace loving scientist than setting up his son as a Kryptonian invader, set on becoming a superpowered dictator, his shield feared?
And then of course you can present yourself to the world as their saviour by defeating Kal-El in battle.
