Halloween . . . this holiday, more than any other, holds a special place inside me. Join me, as we travel into the distant past:

eleven years ago

I just met this kid named Jack. He's pretty cool. He likes to run around, and he dresses like a cowboy. But he looks a lot like Nick and Harrison. But he's nice, I'll enjoy being his friend.

now

Eleven years ago I met Jack in Kindergarten at the Oaks School. Three years after that, Jack and I became good friends, and I was invited over to his house for Halloween. Dressed as a ninja, I arrived at his block. Together with his friend Tawno, flew along the streets, going to every house and collecting TONS of candy! After one night, I would fill my bag, usually not finishing all of my candy until march the following year. Ever since then, the two of us have become great friends, and even Best Friends. And then we graduated. But unlike the other eighteen kids in my class, we stayed in touch! We still see each other, we're still best friends, and we still have so many of the same interests! Although, I go to super-smart Asian school and he goes to Hippy Happy Love School (Wildwood). So even though we're total opposites, we're best friends. And now halloween is one of the few times I see him each year. But I have so many fond memories! Two years ago, me, Jack, Tawno, and Tawno's sister went to a house under construction and broke in. We explored, going up and down the stairs, climbing into the attic, and messing around. And then a police car came! We totally freaked! Panicking, we ran outside, hiding behind a pile of dirt until the police car left. Except the police weren't there to nab us. Instead, they were helping with something else that happened earlier. It was wet, because it had just been raining. We went up some steep stairs to a woman's house, got our candy, and left. As we descended, Tawno's sister Edda slipped and fell down! We rushed over to help her, and the woman followed us. But then she slipped too! Edda was fine, but the woman was pretty badly injured. We got the neighbors to get her some ice, then we ran off. That was why the police were there. But we were afraid they were going to arrest us! We were the ones there when she fell, so it made sense at the time!

Just one of my Halloween memories. And this year was just as fun. I was dressed as a greaser, with slicked back hair, tucked in shirt with rolled up sleeves, and a pistol in my jeans pocket. Tawno was some kind of gangster with a bandana, leather jacket, black t-shirt, and an awesome-looking knife that he kept in his backpocket. Tawno's sister was Robin Hood. And Jack . . . was a trashy drag queen, complete with tight jeans, cowboy boots, a torn, antique shirt, glitter on his face, and a corset. Yes, a corset. He looked soo trashy, and so feminine . . . lol. He wore the outfit to school and made half his class question their sexuality! xD So we went off, grabbing candy in secret as we were a little old for the whole Trick or Treat thing. Then we went onto a new street that had NO kids! We just kept going to doors and finding people who said "Take all you want! Whatever you don't take, I'll have to eat!" Needless to say, we ended up with REALLY full bags. Then instead of going back to the street to return to the house, we took a slightly . . . different route. We went up a steep, sandy hill, with no lights, and plenty of cacti. One wrong move would have been painful! Finally, we reached the top of the ridge. We were easily sixty or seventy feet above the street! We walked along a ridge for a while, stopping at a tv antenna to smack it with our candy "babies." Then we realized we had made a wrong turn, made an about face, and returned to the path. Then we found out that to get down there was NO path, just a slope that we would have to "hill hop" down. I haven't hill hopped in six years! I was so scared, and there were these giant yucca plants between the bottom and me! Edda and I slowly got down, but afterwards I realized there was nothing to be afraid of. Phew! We returned to the house and talked and hung out for a while. Eventually, Tawno left, leaving just me and Jack. I ended up talking to him for over an hour and a half, just catching up, exchanging musical tastes, and making up for lost time. Though the party was really over at 8:30, I didn't leave until 10:30. I had so much fun, I know now why I keep coming back. As long as I can, I will continue to return. But there is something to be said about having such a good friend for eleven years. I hope that our friendship continues to last for ever and ever.
