Marital bliss, sick cats, and badassery

Well, to catch up since the Smithsonian post - Emily and Jared's wedding was lovely and a very good time. Seldom have I seen a couple as happy as they are, so it was something of a privilege to be part of the ceremony. The venue was very pretty, and the leaves are still almost at peak down there, so the second taste of fall really added to the atmosphere. Also, awesomely, they had lots of local friends bring different cakes instead of having one wedding cake.

All the other festivities surrounding the wedding were fun, too - rehearsal luncheon, bachelorette party, game night after the wedding - good stuff. Seeing Mac friends, as always, was wonderful and made me realize how much I miss not only individuals, but a critical mass of people I really enjoy spending time with. I got to see my sister in Baltimore, too, whom I hadn't seen since my own wedding. Bonus.

When we got home from the trip, unfortunately, Tristan was quite ill. On Monday, he just seemed normal cat sick, the kind where you don't worry. But it was gradually downhill until yesterday, when we decided he had to go to the vet. I have to admit that I was considerably more worried about him than I expected to be. I don't mean to be heartless, but he is just a cat, after all, and I was surprised by how upset I was at the thought that he might die. Anyway, after two trips to the vet and $350, he seems to be on the mend. It's still a little iffy, but he's doing much better today. What was actually wrong with him, you ask? No idea. The vet trips were more about ruling things out and then medicating for symptoms than actually finding a cause. Sometimes, the state of the medical establishment is astonishing to me. They did the same thing with my heart palpitations. Although that was actually cheaper than the cat.

In other news, Elias and I started Krav Maga classes on Monday, which we'll be doing twice a week for the next six weeks. They're pretty much awesome. I feel totally endorphin/adrenaline high afterward. At least so far, anyway. During Wednesday's class, I was complimented by one instructor on my speed and by the other on my aggression. Apparently I have very good aggression.
